Felling

The process of cutting down trees. Complete tree removal, leaving the roots in place.

Crown Lift

the removal of lower branches with the end result being to lift the height of the base of the crown. Often to allow more light to the base of a tree, or to avoid obstacles such as sheds.

Pruning

To cut off branches from a tree, bush, or plant, especially so that it will grow better in the future.

Tree Crown

The top part of the tree, which features branches that grow out from the main trunk and support the various leaves used for photosynthesis.

Pollarding

A pruning technique, cutting the branches back almost to the trunk. This is done to control the height and growth of a tree. It promotes the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches. Only to be done from winter to early spring.

Crown Reduction

The reduction in height and/or spread of the crown, reducing the overall height of the tree.
