Why does my lawn need scarifying and feeding?

Scarifying

Scarifying is the process of removing organic matter, such as thatch and moss, from the surface and around the base of the grass plants. Thatch is the spongy layer of living and dead grass, roots, and other debris that lies between the green part of the plant and the soil surface. Scarifying the lawn will improve water, fertilizer, and airflow to the roots and soil.

Feeding

Feeding the lawn is the process of adding nutrients to the soil to enhance and strengthen the grass plant.
